I know most of us have been upset with our real estate property taxes lately for many reasons. Seniors are upset because some can no longer defer property taxes due to reverse mortgages, others are complaining their values have dropped significantly and their taxes have only increased.
History of Clackamas County Real Estate Property Taxes 1989-2011
The other evening I was searching for something on the Clackamas County Tax Assessor’s website. I didn’t find what I was looking for but found this graphic instead.
This chart shows a history of the real estate property taxes for Clackamas County from 1989-2011 and the effects of Measure 5 and Measures 47/50 on our real estate tax rate:
Property Taxes Dropped
You can see from the chart that our property taxes starting in 1997 for Clackamas County did decrease. However, since 2009, when property values had already declined, our property taxes started increasing as did the tax rate due to measures 47/50 which the voters passed.
Property Tax Appeal
The deadline to appeal your property taxes for the following tax year is January 3, 2012. Our property tax bill says the deadline is December 31, 2011 – however, I verified that it is January 3 on the County’s website. That link is here.
