The City of Lake Oswego has been dealing with foreclosed properties that are not being maintained within our town by the homeowners.
City Of Lake Oswego Dealing With Foreclosed Real Estate
Perhaps you’ve driven through town and noticed high grass or overgrown shrubs at Lake Oswego houses.
When To Call LO Police
Did you know that when grass is taller than 10″, you can report the Lake Oswego property to the Lake Oswego Department’s non-emergency phone number at 503-635-0239 as a nuisance complaint.
A Police Department Community Services Officer will stop buy the home and speak with the occupants about mowing the grass. Move of the time, the conversation leads to a resolution within a few weeks.
At other times, the home might be vacant and could take weeks to resolve. There may be
- probate proceedings due to the death of the property owner
- abandonment of the property during foreclosure proceedings (or even a short sale).
Nuisance Complaints On The Rise
Not surprisingly due to the Lake Oswego real estate market the number of nuisance complaints have increased. In 2009 there were 9 cases, 2010 had 23 cases, and so far in 2011 there have been over 20 cases.
Further, some of the Homeowner’s Associations may be reporting these properties as well. Many HOA’s have guidelines indicating properties need to be maintained within a certain standard. If they aren’t maintained, the HOA can hire work to be done and then bill the owner or attach a lien to the property.
Lake Oswego homes that aren’t maintained can devalue not only your property but your entire neighborhood.
